By BBN Staff: The future of the United Democratic Party (UDP) is still hanging in the air following a conclave in Belmopan this morning.
The UDP held a meeting in Belmopan City at the Sir Edney Cain building with all 31 standard-bearers in an effort to seek the way forward for the fractured party since at this time, it has no leader elect due to the unprecedented events culminating with John Saldivar resigning from the post only three days after securing a victory against Patrick Faber due to mounting corruption allegations from testimony in a Federal US trial.
According to sources, there is some support for Former Deputy Prime Minister, Patrick Faber to take up the mantle and become the next UDP leader, however, Saldivar has managed to garner some support stalling that decision. Saldivar, however, reportedly doesn’t have the support of outgoing Party Leader and Prime Minister, Dean Barrow.
The UDP is scheduled to have a national party council meeting next week Saturday to make a decision on the plans to move the party forward especially since general elections are slated for later this year.
