By BBN Staff: Today, the Embassy of Mexico in Belize announced that renowned Mexican artist Giovanni Fabián Guerrero will be participating in the Belize Street Art Festival 2020, hosted by the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH).
This year’s festival, which will be held on Albert Street in Belize City, on February 29, from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. marks the 10th edition of the event.
The embassy explained that Guerrero is a multidisciplinary artist whose work emphasizes the roots of his indigenous identity. The embassy added that his work teaching the worldview of his people in contemporary proposals in which each work is the representation of a ritual and sacred symbols.
“For this 10th edition of Street Art Festival, the artist has prepared a mural, on the corner of Albert and King Street, that will portray elements of nature & folklore, incorporating the multicultural background of the Belizean people,” the embassy said.
The embassy also noted that Guerrero dedicates a large part of his work to collaborate closely with the youth, collectives, other artists, and movements that seek social justice.
The Street Art Festival is one of the largest events on NICH’s calendar, which often gathers crowds in excess of 3,000 people throughout the duration of the event.
