By BBN Staff: Omar Figueroa, who was recently appointed as Minister of Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development in a Cabinet reshuffling following the fallout from the John Saldivar-Lev Dermen debacle, has not emerged as a possible consensus pick for leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), according to 7 News.
7 News reported that Figueroa received support during yesterday’s Cabinet meeting in Belmopan. It was further reported that he accepted their support and is expected to announce his interest in the party’s leadership following a party-council meeting on Saturday.
It is now expected that his acceptance will make way for an endorsement convention. Patrick Faber also spoke to 7 News and indicated his decision to vie for leadership in a convention would be based on the party-council’s decision on Saturday.
