By Aaron Humes: Three weeks ago the United Democratic Party met to make final preparations for the National Convention it thought would produce a new leader.
Its second such meeting today repeats the process of closing deadlines for submission of names to run for party leader, suceeding Dean Barrow.
The men who contested the last election- Patrick Faber and John Saldivar – are said to be without wide support but either or both may decide to contest again.
The party is seeking a consensus candidate and reports suggest Cayo North representative and environment Minister Dr. Omar Figueroa might be the one, after first deputy and Corozal North’s Hugo Patt ruled himself out.
Prime Minister Barrow marks his birthday this week and is expected to present his final Budget speech on Thursday at the House of Representatives, while also facing a motion of no confidence from the Opposition.
