By BBN Staff: The latest situational report on the novel coronavirus strain (COVID-19) issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), shows that there are now 105,523 confirmed cases in 101 countries worldwide, with 3,584 deaths relating to the virus.
The BBC reports that 49 people in Italy died from the virus yesterday, bringing Italy’s COVID-19-related deaths to almost 200. The BBC also noted that 49 deaths in a day is the largest daily outbreak increase in Italy since the outbreak began.
On Friday, Belize’s Ministry of Health issued an update, stressing that the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) upgraded the risk of the viral outbreak in the region to “very high” which had serious implications for the country.
“The threat for a case to be confirmed in Belize is now more imminent with cases now in the Caribbean…,” the Ministry said.
Notably, when that release was issued, the virus was only confirmed in 84 countries. To date, the Ministry maintains that there has not been a confirmed case in Belize and that the last patient suspected of having the virus tested positive for the H1N1 strain of the flu virus.
The Ministry said that it will be monitoring the situation closely and keeping the public informed.
