Today is International Women’s Day

The event is being celebrated around the globe under the theme: Gender equality by 2030.

The day is earmarked to celebrate the holistic achievements of women.

Women’s contributions to society stem from social, economic, cultural and political platforms.

The observance of this day began in the early 1900s when the world’s population began to boom giving rise to instability and a rise of radical ideologies.

By 2014, International Women’s Day was being celebrated in more than 100 countries.

The United Nations noted that it is a time to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

Make a difference now, think globally and act locally! Be empowered and make everyday International Women’s Day.
