Media requests Whatsapp messages from helicopter crew, Ministry says “Absolutely not!”

Posted: Tuesday, March 10, 2020. 6:09 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of National Security says that it will not be making public, the final Whatsapp message correspondences between the Joint Intelligence Operating Center (JIOC) and the downed Belize Defense Force helicopter.

At a press conference this evening Minister of National Security, Michael Peyrefitte, said that making those messages public would endanger the lives of other security force personnel.

Addressing a question from the media, Peyrefitte said that there was no need for any third party verification of the messages the ministry received as a part of the ongoing investigation.

“The answer is no, I trust the General…” Peyrefitte said.

In an official preliminary preport read this evening, Peyrefitte said that the last correspondence between the flight crew and the JIOC happened at 4:33 a.m.

Peyrefitte also refused to answer questions based on speculation the chopper was shot down based on pictures of the wreck, which showed almost perfectly rounded holes on the helicopter’s frame.
