Agriculture CEO leads delegation to UK for meetings with British politicians

By Aaron Humes: The British High Commission in Belize reports that Chief Executive Officer, Ministry of Agriculture, Jose Alpuche, is in the United Kingdom.

Earlier today the Belize delegation met with the Minister of State at the Department of International Trade, the Right Honorable Conor Burns MP; Chair of the International Trade Select Committee, Honorable Angus Brendan MacNeil MP and Conservative Party MP, Sir Graham Brady.

The UK remains one of Belize’s largest trading partners, mainly in sugar and bananas.

Even as it begins trade negotiations with the European Union (EU) from which it split at the end of January, Britain secured its trading partnerships with Caribbean nations including Belize through an Economic Partnership Agreement ratified by the Senate last year.

This ensures Belize keeps all of its protocols and arrangements with the UK after losing preferential status in the EU for our sugar quota.
