Italy in lockdown as coronavirus death toll rises

By BBN Staff: Health experts around the world are grappling with the Coronavirus (Covid-19) that up to date has infected over 116 thousand people and killed 4,090.

While the majority of deaths to coronavirus are in Mainland China, Italy has seen an increase in fatalities to the virus.

A report from the BBC noted that Italy’s death toll jumped from 366 to 463 on Monday.

Due to the fact that the country has the highest death rate to coronavirus outside of China, Italy has extended emergency measures to the entire country including travel restrictions and bans on public gatherings.

The BBC reports that Italy’s Prime Minister called the outbreak, Italy’s “darkest hour.”

The confirmed cases of the virus also rose from 7,375 to 9,172.

Italy is the worst-hit country after China with cases confirmed in all its regions.

The people now need to seek permission for essential travel.

Other countries have also established protocols including self-quarantine for 14 days for travelers to their countries.
