By BBN Staff: Prensa Libre Guatemala reports that Guatemalan President, Alejandro Giammattei today confirmed Guatemala’s 1st case of coronavirus.
The patient is a Guatemalan man who arrived from Italy and is at the Villa Nueva hospital. The patient arrived along with three relatives and five Salvadorans who went to their country on an AeroMexico flight.
Guatemalan authorities are urging their citizens to remain calm.
Presently, the country has implemented sanitary controls through which travelers arriving to the country by air, sea or land must pass.
The rapid spread of the virus around the globe has forced governments to suspend mass activities.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the covid-19 a global pandemic.
