Boat full of foreigners turned back from San Pedro amidst Covid-19 concerns

Posted: Saturday, March 14, 2020. 9:08 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Close to 50 foreigners, including some Europeans, onboard a vessel from Mexico to Belize are currently returning to Chetumal after being denied entry into Belize.

Earlier today the vessel entered Belizean waters but remained anchored off the coast of San Pedro because authorities refused to have its occupants disembark amidst the Covid- 19 scare.

Passengers on board had refused to leave Belizean waters and had planned to at least remain anchored overnight.

However, that is no longer the case because they didn’t have sufficient supplies to remain.

And so the Belize Coast Guard is escorting the vessel back to Chetumal in a voyage that is scheduled for three hours.
