Schools to be closed for two weeks and travel bans implemented as Belize intensifies Coronavirus prevention efforts

By BBN Staff:  Following the first meeting of National Oversight Committee for COVID-19 this morning, a press conference is underway by Prime Minister Dean Barrow and Leader of the Opposition Johnny Briceno.

Among the Oversight Committee’s decisions, taken after hearing from various key individuals in the coronavirus fight, are these:

1) the postponement of the SIB Census to next year and use of resources for COVID-19 data

2) schools closed March 20 and into Easter break, not a vacation and follow social distancing guidelines

3) gatherings limited to not more than 100 people

4) Travel ban on China, Hong Kong, Japan, Iran, all of Europe

5) all borders closed except for northern and Phillip Goldson International Airport.

6) Cargo vessels will continue to be allowed to enter and leave Belize.
