By BBN Staff: Despite the cancellation of numerous sporting, academic, and cultural events countrywide and around the world, Buba Wuba Bar in Placencia hosted a St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the peninsula making it the only such celebration in this hemisphere.
St. Patrick’s Day parades are held on March 17, paying homage to Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. The Placencia parade is the brainchild of Bubba Wuba Bar owner, Bobby Cappock, with this year marking its third iteration.
Parade Coordinator Heidi Brewer told our newsroom that the parade gets bigger every year with as much as 12 golf carts this year and a police escort. Brewer said that the event was much-needed, given the current state of affairs with all of the COVID-19 cancellations and scares.
“It helped a lot. We have guests that were supposed to be leaving, but then they can’t go because of the quarantine,” Brewer said. “I think people really just needed to come out and celebrate because all of the other parades were cancelled.”
