Coronavirus vaccine tests begin in US

Posted: Tuesday, March 17, 2020. 2:02 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Associated Press (AP) reports that United States researchers gave the first shots of a vaccine test for coronavirus on Monday.

Four healthy US volunteers began the first stage study of the potential vaccine developed in record time after covid-19 spread around the world.

US President Donald Trump informed that a phase 1 clinical trial has begun in one of the fastest vaccine launches in history.

AP reports cited that they observed the study’s first participant receiving the injection. The test will give 45 volunteers, 2 doses of the vaccine.

“This vaccine candidate, code-named mRNA-1273, was developed by the NIH and Massachusetts-based biotechnology company Moderna Inc. There’s no chance participants could get infected because the shots do not contain the coronavirus itself,” AP reported.

Many researchers around the globe are also trying to create a vaccine against covid-19 as the world grappled to deal with the pandemic.
