By BBN Staff: As the country prepares to battle the global coronavirus (COVOD-19) pandemic, a growing number of authorities have been issuing notices of cancellation of events and closure of public spaces, the latest of which are the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute (CZMAI) and the San Ignacio/Santa Elena (SISE) Town Council.
The CZMAI announced today that Goff’s Caye is closed to the general public, including all tour operators, concessionaires, and visitors both local and foreign. The closure will run for 30 days, ending on April 17.
Similarly, the SISE Town Council has announced the cancellation of its 2020 Easter Fair, which was scheduled for April 11-12. The council said that the event was cancelled to ensure the safety of the residents.
Several other notable events on Belize’s social calendar are expected to be cancelled in the coming weeks.
