No covid-19 in Belize; Health authorities share possible measures in event of detection

Posted: Tuesday, March 17, 2020. 6:30 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Health is conducting its ‘Ask the experts’ segment with Health officials from Belize who are monitoring the covid-19 pandemic.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services, answered questions from viewers and shared possible scenarios if a case of covid-19 is detected in Belize.

To date, Belize has no confirmed case of coronavirus.

Manzanero told viewers that he is requesting that Belizeans stay at home during Easter since the threat of covid-19 continues to pose a risk.

Manzanero said that he encouraged the cancellation of any mass activities including Easter activities, the Cross Country Cycling Classic and other large gatherings.

He added that if Belize begins to have cases of covid-19, a curfew may be enacted and the number of persons allowed in gatherings will be reduced from 100 to 10.

With that plan for curfew and minimized gatherings, Manzanero said that would apply to restaurants, bars, churches and any other places where a lot of people gather.
