Belize Defense Force deployed to Belize City in light of violent crime wave

Posted: Wednesday, March 18, 2020. 8:10 am CST.

By BBN Staff:  Belize City has seen an increase in BDF presence literally overnight following a dramatic crime wave which has seen numerous people shot and killed including several women and children.

BBN has received a number of videos showing police patrols accompanied by BDF personnel in various parts of the city.

All this is unfolding as Belize prepares for the eventuality of confirming its first case of Covid-19. Yesterday, the Ministry announced several measures that may be taken in the event of a confirmed case, including the possibility of limiting all mass gatherings from 100 to just 10 people, a virtual lockdown and some have even suggested a curfew. With the new measures being taken by police, could a city-wide curfew come even sooner?
