Corozal Coconut Festival postponed as COVID-19 precautions sweep the nation

Posted: Wednesday, March 18, 2020. 2:17 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) announced today that the 2nd Annual Corozal Coconut Festival, which was scheduled for March 27-28, has been postponed, citing concerns about the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The BTIA said that the decision came following the announcement of the National COVID-19 Oversight Committee to suspend gatherings of over 100 people.

“We want to assure sponsors, exhibitors, and the general public that all ticket payments and booth spaces will be honored once a new date is established,” the BTIA said.

The association also added that it will be meeting in the coming weeks to determine a new date for the festival and will be keeping stakeholders informed. The BTIA also said that it applauds the decisions taken by the Oversight Committee and encourages all Belizeans to stay safe during this time and abide by all the recommendations made by authorities to help fight the spread of the virus.
