By BBN Staff: The Government of Belize has declared a state of emergency amidst increased violence in Belize City and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Marco Vidal, revealed that at 3:00 a.m. today he launched an operation against gang members in the city which has since seen a total of 82 persons detained.
According to Vidal, those numbers will go up at the end of today.
Police are looking at 8 zones in Belize City which will come under the state of emergency.
Those zones include: George Street, Taylors Alley, Backalands, PIV, Gungulung, Conchshell Bay, Ghost Town and Port.
Those that have fled their turfs en route to rural Belize will be detained and processed immediately.
A list of wanted gang members will be made public for which rewards will be available for information leading to their arrests.
