By BBN Staff: United States President Donald Trump announced this week that the US would be closing its borders with Canada for all non-essential travel, in an attempt to combat the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Trump, via his Twitter account, said that the closure would be “…by mutual consent,” and that trade would not be affected. He also said that subsequent details into the closure would be released.
Previously, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the closure of his country’s border to non-Canadians but US citizens were exempt from that restriction.
The move is just another in a long list being implemented by countries around the world, as the World Health Organization reports that COVID-19 is now present in over 154 countries worldwide, with almost 100 confirmed cases in the Caribbean.
