By BBN Staff: The Belize Port Authority (BPA) announced today that, following a decision taken by the government of Belize to close off border entry points in an attempt to battle the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, all maritime traffic is prohibited from entering into Belize, with some exceptions.
The BPA said that all cruise ships and pleasure yachts are barred from entry; however cargo ships and petroleum tanks can still enter Belizean waters.
“The government has also prohibited the landing of persons who have traveled within the last 30 days from China, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, South Korea, and Europe for entry into Belize. This restricted travel list of countries will be continuously monitored and updated as necessary,” the BPA said.
The BPA also said that all Belizean nationals returning to Belize from any point of entry from any of the restricted countries or an area where community infection and spread is present will be placed in self-isolation upon arrival and will be expected to follow the protocols of the Ministry of Health.
The BPA said that there is still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Belize, but that the above mentioned measures are precautions.
