By Aaron Humes: As previously agreed, the General Revenue and Appropriations Bill 2020-21 was approved after one intervention by Leader of the Opposition John Briceño.
The Opposition Leader spent most of his time outlining an agenda for a majority PUP Government, discussing initiatives on crime, the economy, poverty alleviation, health and welfare, education and national security.
Acknowledging that his response would be muted in light of the coronavirus effort, Briceno also addressed himself to suggestions on how to focus the funds that will delay if not prevent Belize’s first case and subsequent spread.
With the Budget approved by representatives, it goes to the Committee of Supply along with the Official Charities Fund Motion referred on March 5 and the motion for the reappointment of the Ombudsman.
The debate set an unwanted record as the shortest on record.
