Fallen tree tears down Branch Mouth bridge

Posted: Thursday, March 19, 2020. 11:16 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Many workers use the Branch Mouth bridge connecting San Ignacio/Santa Elena to Santa Familia Village to commute to and from work daily.

This morning, a tree that had a big hole in its trunk along the Mopan river bank fell on the bridge and dislodged the cables on one side of the hammock bridge.

Fortunately, no one was on the bridge at the time of the accident.

Technicians from the Ministry of Work are on the scene assessing the situation.

BBN is reliably informed that the main elements of the bridge are intact and as such full restoration of the hammock bridge is very likely.
