Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address Guatemalan transfer at afternoon briefing

Posted: Thursday, March 19, 2020. 1:50 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Minister of Foreign Affairs Wilfred Elrington told reporters after today’s House meeting that he will seek information about the reported transfer of Guatemalan nationals through the western border from the Philip Goldson International Airport.

He and his CEO will then brief the press this afternoon at 2 p.m.

Pending that interview, Minister Elrington said he hadn’t had any conversations with anyone concerning such a transfer.

Acknowledging that the buck stops with him, Elrington said he would still consider limited exceptions to the closing of entry points, but added that not all can be accommodated.

We will have the result of that briefing as it happens.

Elrington’s comments come in the wake of a leaked recording purported to be Ambassador Said Guerra sounding the alarm on a situation in which two Guatemalans were transported from PGIA to the western border despite GOB having made announcements of border closures.
