New Flags in Santa Elena rationing flour to families; shoppers fingers inked

Posted: Thursday, March 19, 2020. 7:35 pm CST.

By BBN Staff:  As Belize prepares for the threat of Covid-19, stores and supermarkets are already experiencing a scarcity in basic food items such as flour and rice.

The word spread today that three Asian businesses in Santa Elena, Cayo received shipments for flour.

But the flour is being rationed by 3 pound bags per family. Each family that goes in to purchase their 3 lbs of flour needs to ink their fingers similar to the election voting process.

This is being done to mark the families who have gotten their 3 lbs of flour.

“Please understand that we are trying to distribute the flour to as much people as possible,” a statement from New Flags said regarding the inking.
