By BBN Staff: Today the Belize Cancer Society announced the postponement of its annual Cancer Awareness Walk, which was scheduled for Saturday, May 30.
The BCS said that its Executive Board and management reached the decision to cancel the walk following the advice and directives given by the COVID-19 National Oversight Committee, the Ministry of Health, PAHO-WHO, the Healthy Caribbean Coalition, and regional monitoring agencies.
“The Cancer Walk Planning Committee and the Executive Committee have decided to reschedule this awareness walk for Saturday, October 24th, 2020, if the threat of Covid-19 subsides. This activity will support our Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month of activities which is celebrated worldwide from October 1st -31st,” the BCS said.
The BCS also issued a notice to parents of pediatric cancer patients that, due to the closure of border entry points due to the COVID-19 preventative measures, their clinic dates with the Hospital O Horan have been shifted to the Dangriga Cancer Centre at 11 Pine Street, Dangriga.
To date, Belize remains COVID-19 free, despite the virus being confirmed in every other Central American country and aggressive measures are being put in place to keep the country free of the virus for as long as possible.
