Southwest Airlines cuts 1,000 flights from schedule including flight to Belize

Posted: Saturday, March 21, 2020. 9:12 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The Government of Belize announced that on Monday, March 24, the Philip Goldson International Airport will close after the last scheduled flight departs Belize.

Many airlines have cancelled flights and Southwest Airlines informed that it is cutting 1,000 international flights.

The flights to the Caribbean and Mexico that are being cut are a whopping 25% of its operations.

The cuts begin on Sunday, March 22.

“During this unprecedented time, we will continually assess the real-time, market demand for Southwest’s service with the goal of cancelling flights that have alternate flights or route options and that affect the fewest number of customers,” a statement from Southwest said.

The airline is cutting flights after several countries implemented strict border restrictions due to rapid spread of Covid-19.

The airline hopes to resume the flights by May 4.
