Cuban doctors head to Italy in coronavirus fight

By Aaron Humes: Al-Jazeera reports that Cuba is sending its medics to the Lombardy region of Italy to help Italian doctors fight the coronavirus outbreak.

Cuban doctors were on the front lines in the fight against cholera in Haiti and against Ebola in West Africa 10 years ago.

Nearly 800 Italians died from the new coronavirus on Saturday.

Al-Jazeera’s Ed Augustin reports from Havana that those doctors he has spoken to say they are apprehensive about their journey but confident they will defeat this plague as they have others.

In Cuba there have been 25 confirmed cases and the Government has ordered the borders closed.
