By Aaron Humes: The 38-year-old patient that is Belize’s first confirmed case of COVID-19 is improving as of this morning, says Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services. She will not require hospitalization.
Now the hunt is on for those she was in contact with. The mapping exercise will cover all she made contact with and test if necessary, including covering transportation to the island and the manifest of the plane she traveled on.
But to date, 10 other swabs from previous reports are negative.
The case will be treated as imported and Dr. Manzanero condemned reported threats against medical staff in the South. It will be reported to the World Health Organization shortly.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow added that other treatment centers have been identified and the Karl Heusner Memorial hospital will be limited to the most severe cases.
109 kits are available and a further 300 will be picked up from PAHO this morning.
Investigations continue in to the American who visited Belize last week and contracted COVID-19 after coming home.
