Businesses in downtown Belize closing their doors

Posted: Wednesday, March 25, 2020. 10:18 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Belize’s business community continues to do its part in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic with several establishments announcing closure until further notice.

Our news team was in downtown Belize City this morning to find the streets practically deserted, with few businesses still in operation. Mikado and Dibari, two popular stores in the downtown area, are among the latest businesses that have announced closure until further notice, in light of the ongoing viral outbreak.

Those businesses that are operating such as the banks in the area have all implemented measures recommended by the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization, such as the installation of hand sanitizer dispensers, routine sanitization of their facilities, and mandating that customers adhere to social distancing measures.

These measures are all being proactively implemented, as there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 coming out of Belize City. To date, Belize still only has one confirmed case of COVID-19 in San Pedro.
