More training and technology, less “miscellaneous” says Senator Isabel Bennett

Posted: Wednesday, March 25, 2020. 12:02 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Senator Isabel Bennett has a problem with the word “miscellaneous,” or more specifically, how many times it appears in the Budget book.

During the debate today in Belmopan, she cited multiple figures of miscellaneous costs in each Ministry, mostly small figures. These are for costs not covered under other headings.

But she pointed out that these costs often outstrip figures for training and use of technology. Every public servant and especially those in health and education, she said, should “be moving around with iPads inputting data as they check on cases or as they do tracing…what we need is a Government that focuses on people.”

She also noted that in the era of COVID-19 much more attention must be given to healthcare.
