By Aaron Humes: The second confirmed case of COVID-19 is in San Pedro town and infected by the first case, a daughter to mother transmission caused by failing to properly self-isolate.

Five other suspected cases sent for testing have been returned negative.

However, the state of emergency for Ambergris Caye has been extended for 30 days but Barrow said it is hoped that it can be lifted before that.

Four tests for persons from across the country have also been reported negative and so Belize has so far avoided the frightening prospect of an escalation of controls.
