Taiwan contributes to funding for purchase of medical equipment to fight Covid-19 pandemic

Posted: Wednesday, March 25, 2020. 3:23 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: To help the fight against COVID-19, the Embassy of Taiwan has contributed funding to the Government of Belize, on March 25 in Belize City.

This contribution will be used for the purchase of urgently needed medical equipment/materials for the frontline medical service providers in Belize.

On behalf of the Government of Belize, this donation was received by Minister of Health, Pablo Marin from Remus Li-Kuo Chen, Taiwan Ambassador in Belize, and will serve as Taiwan’s unwavering commitment to offer assistance to the Government of Belize while facing the current pandemic.

The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Belize on March 22, 2020.

“How to jointly fight against this heretofore unknown communicable disease would be a daunting challenge for all members of the international community. The Taiwan Government, through its Embassy in Belize, will continue to work closely with its partners in the Government of Belize to weather this unforeseen public health crisis. We are not only willing to donate but also eager to share our own expertise/experiences in containing the further spread of COVID-19,” a statement from the embassy noted.

The embassy says that while everyone is engaged in the fighting against the dangerous and deadly coronavirus, Taiwan is still excluded from the most important inter-governmental organization that deals with the most pressing health issues – the World Health Organization (WHO).

The WHO’s mission is to achieve the highest attainable standard for all humankind and ensure the widest universal health coverage.

In this regard, no one should be left out of this noble cause and effort.

The Taiwan Embassy says that it appreciates the long term and staunch support from the Government of Belize for Taiwan’s participation in the WHO.

“We solemnly call on the WHO to include Taiwan into its annual World Health Assembly (WHA) and any experts or technical meetings/mechanism/information sharing for the purpose of any integrated and across border efforts in combating COVID-19,” the statement added.

As one of the most loyal and trustworthy partners of Belize, Taiwan will continue to assist Belize to emerge from this pandemic stronger than ever with vibrant economic prosperity.
