By BBN Staff: Today our newsroom received reports that Chinese businesses in Belize City appeared to have been closed for business.

We contacted president of the Belize Chinese Association (BCA), Johnston Ou, for comment.

He indicated that there is no shutdown of businesses. however, there is an ongoing discussion that the operating hours for Chinese businesses might change temporarily amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

He noted that such determination will be made by the end of the week.

In terms of support to the government, Ou indicated that a shipment of 5,000 face masks is to arrive in-country and will be distributed to members of the Belize Police Department and healthcare workers.

He also indicated that in the next ten days another shipment of 20,000 face masks and some thermometers will also be donated to the government.
