By BBN Staff: The United States Government says that it has charged Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro for narco-terrorism and is offering a reward of US$15 million for his capture.
US Attorney General William Barr made the announcement today, saying that Maduro and at least a dozen others including Venezuelan government and intelligence officials are charged with offenses which include narco-terrorism conspiracy and conspiracy to import cocaine into the U.S. Barr went on to say that the US does not recognize Maduro as President of Venezuela.
Barr’s statement mirrors that of US President Donald Trump who has gone on record to call Maduro a “tyrant” and and “an illegitimate ruler.”
Last year the US and several of its allied nations acknowledged opposition leader Juan Guido as Interim President of Venezuela, saying that new elections needed to be called because Maduro’s presidency was illegitimate.
