Arthur Saldivar cautioned for spreading false rumors

By Aaron Humes: Police on Saturday afternoon in Belmopan held, but ultimately released 48-year-old attorney-at-law Arthur Saldivar of a Belmopan address for the offense of spreading false rumors.

Police verified that a post on Facebook made by Saldivar concerning the alleged entry at the Northern Border of certain persons from Los Angeles, California and making other charges was unconfirmed and ultimately untrue, and that when it was posted and reshared and commented on, “[it] tended to create a public alarm.”

Saldivar was arrested, taken to the main police station, interviewed, cautioned and released.

The offense was recently created in response to activity on social media as it relates to the spread of false information regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
