ASK THE EXPERTS: First three cases doing well, few contacts reported

By Aaron Humes: Director of Health Services, Dr. Marvin Manzanero, confirms that the three individuals in Belize who have caught COVID-19 are showing mild symptoms and doing well health-wise.

In the case of the third patient who came from New York to Belize City, mapping experts have only found two contacts who directly came in contact with the 38-year-old patient.

Dr. Manzanero again insisted that it was not proper health protocol to either release the name or particulars of the patient and to take down the internal dashboard that identified the specific area where the patient lived.

With the arrival of 1,000 test kits on Friday, testing has been ramped up for health care workers on the frontline and certain others.

Concerning the importance of testing, Dr. Manzanero says Belize has been testing at or near the same level as other countries with both increasing and stabilized levels of cases, and no continued community transmission has been documented to date.

Health personnel have been on the ground and personally seeing violations of the social distancing protocol and discrimination against personnel themselves continues.
