By Aaron Humes: “I don’t think we are a disciplined society,” Director of Health Services, Dr. Marvin Manzanero conceded of efforts to maintain social distancing.
Nonetheless, he and Principal Public Health Inspector, Johnn Bodden, are asking Belizeans to find that discipline seen in Europe and elsewhere.
A distance of three to six feet is required for gatherings in public, and Bodden commended fishers at the Conch Shell Bay Market for doing their part.
However, Dr. Manzanero observed that many are still not following the law, which can incur penalties up to fines and imprisonment, as nine individuals found out to their discomfort over the weekend.
Bodden pointed out that the majority of the burden to respect the law rests with the public.
Any changes due to the now-national state of emergency will be discussed at Tuesday’s press conference.
