ASK THE EXPERTS: Labour Department, Social Security answer concerns

By Aaron Humes: The heads of the Labour Department and the Social Security Board are appearing on the webcast “Ask the Experts.”

Labour Commissioner Ann Marie Thompson and SSB’s General Manager for Corporate and Customer Relations Services Chandra Nisbet Cansino are today’s guests.

Nisbet Cansino reminded that SSB has suspended non-essential services, waived time for employers to pay contributions and established processes for dealing with short term claims.

Thompson called for dialogue between employers who are closing businesses, affected employees and where necessary the trade unions to ease the sting of losing their jobs.
