Ministry of Finance cutting gas allowances to cut costs

Posted: Wednesday, April 1, 2020. 2:32 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has circulated a memo indicating that fuel allocation for most ministries will be reduced by 25 percent as a cost-saving measure in the face of the economic strain brought on by the coronavirus (COVOD-19) pandemic.

Financial Secretary Joseph Waight said in the memo that only the security forces, transport and health sectors will be exempt from this change.

The measures form a part of a larger set of adjustments that the Government of Belize is working on to combat the economic impact of COVID-19.
