By BBN Staff: Today, the Belize Chinese Association (BCA) donated a total of 3,000 medical masks to frontline workers from entities aiding in the national response against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The BCA donated 1,000 masks each to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, the Ministry of Health, and the Belize Police Department. The association’s members said that the items were donated with their gratitude to the frontline workers for their service to Belize. BBN spoke with BCA President Johnston Ou, who explained that the association managed to secure some 6,000 masks, and will be distributing the remaining 3,000 in communities throughout Belize.
“It is difficult to get a mask to everyone, I honestly wish I could do more,” Ou said. “We did not bring these to sell, we have no plans for that, not even one piece,” Ou stated.
He noted that the BCA is working on a second shipment of 20,000 masks, which will also be donated, adding that the BCA hopes to have that shipment sometime next week. Ou stressed that, at the end of the day, we are all Belizeans and must work together to overcome the pandemic, which threatens us all.
