By Aaron Humes: Minister of National Security Michael Peyrefitte has apparently made it official: Easter is cancelled.
Yes, Christ the Lord will be still be risen, but celebrations will be muted with restrictions on travel and large gatherings, including church services.
The Cross Country Cycling Classic is cancelled for only the second time in its history. Usual travel to San Pedro, Caye Caulker, Placencia and Cayo Districts is effectively limited.
Even in the daytime between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m., movement is limited to buying essential goods or medical or other emergencies, or traveling to and from work if your service is essential.
Jogging, walking and running for exercise is now allowed with social distancing in place.
In the case of the press, it may mean starting television newscasts earlier to ensure workers get home faster.
And police (essential to manage the state of emergency) will be required to ask you your purpose for movement.
Violations carry a penalty of $5,000 or 2 years in jail.
