By Aaron Humes: Chances are prayer and/or fasting will be on the agenda of most Belizean Christians next weekend – Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.
But the State, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, is along with the Council of Churches is calling all the religious to formalize prayer services under themes of repentance, redemption and resurrection in that order.
Continuous prayer services will be led by chief clergy from the Council of Churches including Anglican Bishop Philip Wright and Senator Ashley Rocke of the Baptist Church, starting at 6 a.m. Friday morning and concluding at 6 p.m. Sunday evening, joined by other clergy in virtual prayer groups around the Jewel.
A formal schedule will be released by Holy Wednesday, April 8.
One Sunday in September is designated a National Day of Prayer during the September Celebrations and Belize also observes the International Day of Prayer annually.
Tomorrow Sunday is Palm Sunday, when Jesus went to Jersualem as projected Savior of the Jews and left the resurrected Christian Savior of the world.
