By Aaron Humes: After a Belize City Council employee tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, offices of the Belize City Council as well as the San Ignacio-Santa Elena Town Council became critical places for Covid-19 mapping and surveillance.
Mayor Bernard Wagner and City Administrator Stephanie Lindo headed the City’s efforts by voluntary cooperating with the Ministry of Health and other authorities.
As of this morning, contrary to rumors, both have been tested and cleared of having symptoms or signs of COVID-19.
The Ministry has confirmed that the majority of its samples from the Council’s employees in close contact with the fourth infected patient have returned negative results. These persons will be retested at a later date to completely clear them.
The Council continues to pray for its colleague, who continues to be cared for at the intensive unit in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
The Council continues to provide services to City residents despite a skeletal staff and complete neglect from Central Government. It has even offered discounts on property taxes and other services after recently announcing a positive cash balance.
