Curfew violation arrests set new record; A total of 119 persons arrested

By BBN Staff: Following the third day of the nationwide curfew instituted during the State of emergency, the Belize Police Department has arrested a new record number of people.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said today: “Over the past 24 hours period, a total of 119 persons were arrested under the State of Emergency Regulations.”

Williams further explained the reason for the arrests and the number of people that committed the offense, which included: Unable to provide reasons for movement outside the curfew period- 62 people,  Breach of curfew 50 people, and – Failure to practice social distancing- 7 people.

On the first night of curfew, 74 persons were arrested and 105 persons were arrested on the second night.

 

Williams said that the police department will not ease up until the public realizes the importance of adhering to the regulations.
