By BBN Staff: Just one day after Belize recorded its first covid-19 patient death, the country has confirmed 2 new cases of the virus.

In a Facebook post a short while ago, Minister of Health, Pablo Marin said that 26 persons were tested yesterday of which 2 resulted positive to COVID-19. Both positive tests are from Belizean males residing in San Ignacio.

Patient No. 6 had an encounter with Patient No. 4 (who died yesterday). He was identified during the Ministry of Health’s mapping exercise and remains in self-isolation as his signs and symptoms are mild.

Patient No. 7 is currently hospitalized at the Western Regional and the mapping exercise has begun.

A total of 268 persons have now been tested for COVID-19 in Belize and 7 have been confirmed positive.

“I must say that although my test result is negative due to precautionary measures I remain isolated without any symptoms but able to participate virtually in this morning’s meeting by the National Oversight Committee and other sessions,” Marin said.
