Court conducts hearing for LPG importers by WhatsApp

Posted: Monday, April 6, 2020. 5:20 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Supreme Court at last minute this morning called off an in-person hearing of an application for an interim injunction, instead accepting submissions remotely.

Attorneys for Gas Tomza, Belize Western Energy and Southern Choice Butane/Zeta Gas, Audrey Matura, Jose Alpuche and Dean Molina, submitted to have the Government injuncted from refusing to license them beyond April 30 and harassing them in relation to their business.

The importers are due to be replaced in that role by the National Gas Company Limited, majority owned by a U.S. investor and minority owned by several Belizean business owners and the Government.

We understand that Government Counsel Agassi Finnegan is to respond and then a judgment from presiding Justice Michelle Arana is due in the week of April 20.
