New Statutory Instrument provides for 2 years imprisonment for breach of regulations

By BBN Staff: The entire Cayo District has been placed under quarantine due to the COVID-19 threat.

As a result, the Government of Belize has enacted a new Statutory Instrument (SI) governing the regulations of the State of Emergency and the quarantine for Cayo.

The new SI provides for jail time for anyone who breaches the regulations.

“A person convicted of a second or subsequent offense under these Regulations is liable to imprisonment for a period of two years,” the regulations states.

The Government has also issued a list of businesses that can remain open and those that must be closed. The list can be found here.
