By BBN Staff: In 2006, Gustavo Giron Sr. and his son Gustavo Giron Jr. founded Astrum Helicopters with the vision of building the first helicopter company in Belize.
Today, the company that has operated services in Belize for the last 12 years is mourning their founding father, Gustavo Giron Sr.
Giron Sr. passed away due to an on-going medical condition.
He was a second-generation pilot who started flying fixed-wing aircrafts at the age of 14. Gustavo followed his passion for aviation and pursued a career as a pilot against his mom’s wishes, but supported by his wife.
Soon after obtaining his license, he began working for different entities around Guatemala City.
Eventually, he fell in love with helicopters and there was no turning back to planes after that.
In 2005 Gustavo Giron Sr. and his eldest son—Gustavo—opened Astrum Helicopters in Belize, the first and only helicopter company in Belize owned and operated by their family.
“Gustavo Sr. played a vital role setting the foundation for Astrum Helicopters as a phenomenal pilot who was extremely talented and loved by anyone who has ever had the honor of flying with him. He will be missed dearly by our staff and his family and we honor him with this post of him flying over a supermoon some time ago. Rest In Peace our dear Papa,” a statement from the company expressed.
