By BBN Staff: As of today, Friday, April 10, 2020, over 100,000 people have died in the COVID–19 global pandemic.

The virus, which surfaced in mid-December of 2019, has claimed a total of 101,557 persons thus far. Meanwhile the total number of confirmed cases stands at over 1,600,000. Of those currently suffering from the virus, over 1,100,000 are considered mild cases, while almost 50,000 are considered serious-critical.

While the virus initially had a fatality rate of 2 percent when it was first recognized as a global threat, the fatality rate has raised to above 6 percent. Notably, over 372,000 people have recovered from the virus, giving it a recovery rate of 21.7 percent.

Today, Belize mourns the second life lost locally to COVID-19. Breaking Belize News offers sincere condolences to the family of patient #10 and appeals to all Belizeans to adhere to the state of emergency regulations set in place by authorities in an attempt to minimize
COVID-19’s impact on the country.
